Head of Retail Banking

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Head of Retail Banking to lead and oversee branch performance and retail banking strategy across the organization. This role holds overall responsibility for driving deposit growth, service excellence, and operational efficiency while ensuring full regulatory compliance.
This role will oversee branch locations including San Francisco and San Mateo, as well as additional responsibilities as assigned. The ideal candidate is a strategic and forward-thinking leader who can balance high-level strategy with hands-on execution, leading branch banking initiatives while enhancing customer experience and organizational performance.
Key Responsibilities
Executive Leadership & Strategy
- Develop and execute the bank’s retail banking strategy aligned with overall business objectives
- Work closely with the CEO to drive strategic initiatives, policies, and service enhancements
- Provide leadership and oversight of branch banking operations, including sales performance, service delivery, and operational efficiency
- Align short- and long-term strategies with organizational goals and growth objectives
Branch Performance & Operations Oversight
- Oversee performance across all branch locations, ensuring consistency in service, efficiency, and compliance
- Establish, monitor, and evaluate performance metrics, workflows, and operational standards
- Conduct regular branch visits, performance reviews, and operational assessments
- Partner with branch and operations leadership to maintain strong internal controls and operational integrity
Sales & Deposit Growth
- Drive overall branch sales strategy, including deposit growth and cross-selling initiatives
- Ensure alignment between branch performance and broader organizational revenue goals
- Analyze market trends and identify opportunities for growth within target segments
- Support and guide teams in building strong client relationships to drive retention and expansion
Customer Experience
- Champion a relationship-based, customer-first banking culture across all locations
- Establish service standards and ensure consistent delivery across the branch network
- Oversee resolution of escalated client issues and ensure positive outcomes
- Continuously evaluate and enhance the overall customer experience
Digital Banking & Cash Management
- Direct all Cash Management activities, including sales, servicing, and product support
- Lead the development and ongoing management of the bank’s digital and electronic banking strategy
- Oversee online and mobile banking platforms, EFT activities, and security protocols
- Research, develop, and implement new electronic banking products and enhancements
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure adherence to all regulatory requirements
- Promote a strong culture of compliance and risk awareness across all branches
- Partner with Risk/Compliance/Audit teams to address findings and mitigate risk
- Ensure consistent application of internal controls, policies, and procedures
Community & Organizational Engagement
- Represent the bank in the local community and industry organizations
- Build partnerships and support initiatives that enhance the bank’s visibility and growth
- Strengthen the bank’s presence in key markets, including San Mateo and San Francisco
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or related field, or equivalent work experience
- 8+ years of banking management experience, including multi-branch or retail leadership
- Proven track record in sales leadership, deposit growth, and business development
- Strong leadership, coaching, and team development skills
- Deep knowledge of banking products, services, and regulatory requirements
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Compensation
Salary Range: $125,000 - $150,000 annually (based on experience)
